The fifteenth annual Scrumptious Summerville Kitchen Tour, to benefit the Dorchester Children's Center, has been scheduled for Sunday, October 1 from 1 to 5 p.m.
This year's route showcases nine homes and gardens along Sumter Avenue and Charleston Street in Summerville's historic district. The street will be closed to traffic to ensure safety and walkability on the touring route.
This year the homes and gardens will host 20 different tasting opportunities, including sweet, savory, seafood, and vegetarian selections. Several special beverage stations will be located along the route as well. Some of the returning guest favorites include Circa 1886, Five Loaves Cafe, the Dorchester District Two Culinary Program, and Cuppa Manna, to name a few. Among the new participants will be Island Porch Catering, Crust Wood Fired Pizza, Acme Lowcountry Kitchen from Isle of Palms, and the executive pastry chef for Magnolia's in downtown Charleston. The newly-opened Caroline's Low Country Kitchen, under the leadership of Chef Billy Condon, has also joined the Kitchen Tour's offerings. The full list of participants and ticket information appears on the event website: www.scrumptioussummerville
New this year, Kitchen Tour guests ages 21 and up will have the opportunity to purchase a wristband to sample wines and craft beers. Local musicians and ensembles are scheduled to perform in each home or garden, and area florists will complement the interior décor with custom-designed floral arrangements. The event is held rain or shine.
